Becoming a social media influencer can transform your life. Once you have access to a network of loyal followers, you can unlock revenue streams, gain resources, and of course, get your biggest ideas in front of key people.
You may also find that brands begin seeking you out and offering you partnership opportunities. This allows them to get their products in front of your audience.
It’s not easy to become a social media king (or queen). You need a strategic plan in place, so read on to learn everything you need to know.
Becoming a Social Media Influencer
It takes time to become a social media influencer. But more importantly, you need a well-thought-out strategy to keep you on track and accountable.
Many people use social media as part of their inbound marketing. This is because once you have a large following, you can then move them down a sales funnel.
Here’s what you need to do:
Choose a Niche
It’ll get boring continually posting about a topic if you’re not truly interested in it. But you also need to be an expert, so you can tell your followers something new, fresh, or funny.
Choose Your Channels
Next, you’ll need to choose between two and four social media channels. Many people try to bite off more than they can chew, and spread themselves too thin over multiple channels. This can make your efforts unfocused and weak on each platform.
Instead, consider the type of content you can create and publish and pick accordingly. Here are some options:
Make a Plan
Now it’s time to develop your content strategy. What type of value will you provide for your followers? Why would they want to follow you?
Consider your short and long-term goals. These should be S.M.A.R.T goals which means they’re:
A smart goal would be “I want to increase my Facebook following by 300 people by the end of the month.”
- Specific – 300 people
- Measurable – You can tell if it has been achieved
- Achievable – It’s possible to attract 300 new followers in one month
- Realistic – It feels like it can happen
- Time-bound – By the end of the month
Your content needs to attract people and your followers should know what to expect. You should know what kind of messages you’re aiming to pass along, stick to those messages, and remain open to new ideas.
This is where many people go wrong. It’s easy to forget to post for a few days and then saturate your social media channels with posts. This is a bad move, and a good way to lose followers.
You need to build relationships with your followers. That means responding ASAP to questions and comments, interacting with their posts, and building a loyal community.
You should also contact other brands and people in your industry. Talk, comment, like their posts, exchange ideas, do interviews, and draw (positive) attention to your brand.
